No matter how many skin care experts tell me that soaking in a hot tub is a no-no if I want skin to stay hydrated during the winter, I always cheat. I soak and soak. Can you blame me?
To make matters worse, when I have natural bath salts like the ones I made this weekend at my DIY beauty workshop, I really never want to leave the tub. Unless, of course, it gets cold in there. Then I'm out!
I thought you'd like to make these bath salts yourself- they make a gorgeous, inexpensive (the cost, including jar, is probably $5), and well-loved gift to treat family, friends and neighbors.
To make the bath salts shown above, combine 1/2 cup Epsom salts, 1/2 cup baking soda and 10 drops essential oil (I used lavender). I also added dried flower petals for color. This recipe makes enough salts for 2 baths. Double or triple the recipe to fill a big container and give as a gift!
Who doesn't enjoy a soak, knowing that they're pampering their body with safe, natural ingredients? Puts the mind at ease even more than the lavender essential oil.
The Epsom salts in this soak soothe muscles, relive tired feet and reduce water retention. And the baking soda will soften the water and soothe dry, itchy skin. Add the essential oil that you love most, though steer clear of citrus oils, which can cause skin sensitivity after the bath.
