Zinc: this beauty mineral is essential for skin healing, the growth of new cells and collagen, clear skin, immunity, and eye health. It's one of my top picks for powerhouse beauty nutrients.
BUT— many of us are missing out on the beauty benefits of zinc, since it's commonly low in our diets!
One reason for our low zinc is that we don't store this mineral in our bodies (and it gets depleted easily if you take a birth control pill). So eating zinc-rich foods is something to be conscious of when you're picking out your daily meals and snacks.
For a list of some of my favorite beauty food sources of zinc, check out my earlier post on zinc (which explains why a zinc supplement is not always a good choice).
And for an easy snack to munch on tonight— here's a recipe for crunchy, savory Roasted Chickpeas (an excellent source of zinc, and a snack food that promotes gorgeous skin)...
Grab these savor snacks and give your skin a healing boost from within!
1 15 oz can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
garlic powder, cumin or cayenne, to taste
Preheat over to 400 degrees. Drain and rinse the chickpeas and dry with a paper towel (discard any chickpea skins that fall off). Spread across a clean baking sheet and toss with a drizzle of olive oil. Season with sea salt and your preferred spices (I like the garlic powder + cumin combo). Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until lightly browned and crunchy.
A cup of chickpeas has 17% of your daily zinc needs, not to mention 26% of your iron and 15 g of protein (for about 250 calories)!
