Beauty Ingredient 101: Calendula

calendula 2

It may look delicate and sweet, but make no mistake- the calendula flower is one of nature's most powerful skin treatments.

Prepared in a salve or a cream, calendula is a go-to healing and soothing remedy for scrapes, burns, rashes, eczema and chapped skin. The anti-inflammatory properties of calendula also make it a favorite ingredient in acne treatments, after-sun creams and anti-aging skin care (it's also rich in antioxidants: carotenoids, lutein, lycopene and flavonoids). Those with dry, sensitive or redness-prone skin will want to look for calendula as an ingredient in natural skin care products. Because calendula gently increases microcirculation and reduces swelling when applied topically, it's likely to be a key ingredient in a natural varicose vein relief cream.

Where can you find calendula as an active ingredient in natural skin care? Here are a few of my favorites:

Tata Harper Skin Care Revitalizing Body Oil. The calendula oil in this potent blend helps regenerate dry, dehydrated skin and heal skin problems.
