Do you remember the very first natural beauty product that you tried?
With all of the fabulous new natural and organic beauty brands that have popped up in the last few years, it's easy to get caught up in a never-ending hunt for the next big thing in beauty. There will always be something fresh and innovative to try!
But what about the natural beauty pioneers that introduced us to green beauty and gave us safe cosmetics before they were cool?
Many of them STILL deserve a place in our beauty cabinets, 40, 50 or more years later!
I started thinking about my favorite classic natural beauty brands while using my Dr. Hauschka facial products (pictured above). I love how time-tested and traditional they feel, but most of all I'm obsessed with how well they work! The brand makes some of the best natural skincare on the market. But there's also Weleda. This brand is nearly 100 years old, and still boasts some of the most coveted natural products (ever tried Skin Food? It's a makeup artist favorite!). And Nature's Gate. I grew up using their Rainwater shampoo as a child, and was blown away by the awesome natural sunscreens they released just this year. And what about classic Tom's of Maine, Dr. Bronner's, or Kiss My Face?
To make it this far, these brands have endured some serious evolution and adaptation. Certainly many of the ingredients that we thought were pure and natural decades ago have been updated—or upgraded—to a new standard of safety. New products have been developed, new ingredients trends uncovered (sea buckthorn, acai and hemp anyone?). And packaging design changed to fit a more modern aesthetic and greener materials.
Even today, these brands hold a secure spot in my routine.
