Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine that treats patients according to their regulatory principles (called doshas), is seeing a resurgence as Westerners begin to appreciate the wisdom and value of the practice. Rather than treat symptoms of an illness, ayurveda supports the body's natural potential to heal the root of disease.
Ayurveda is an important practice for wellness even without disease; learning about your dosha can help you understand your physiology and your constitution and encourage your body to function optimally.
Until now, it's been somewhat tricky to know just what ayurvedic spices, oils and teas to choose– without a personal consultation! But I recently discovered R-U-VED products, which are customized for vata, pitta and kapha doshas and incredibly easy to implement into your lifestyle. (If you don't know your dosha, try taking an online test like this one from the Chopra Center).
Once you are sure of your dosha, check out R-U-VED for a spice blend that you can sprinkle onto meals that will support your health (these smell delicious), or my favorite– ayurvedic teas. The tea customized to my pitta dosha is a delicious blend of cardamom, holy basil, sandalwood, licorice and cinnamon that balances my metabolism and digestion. It's soothing and calming for my supposedly irritable constitution!
You'll be amazed at how greatly these balancing blends target the needs of your body– needs you may not even be aware of at the moment.
And a body in balance is beautiful!
