The model life looks attractive to most of us, but it's not always kind to the skin. As a backstage beauty reporter at Fashion Week, I've seen how easily a model's skin can become dry, red, irritated and broken out from layers of makeup, applied and removed a dozen times in one day, as well as from dry air during plane travel. It's not glamorous.
So I wasn't surprised to read that model Sessilee Lopez's essential beauty ingredient is none other than honey, the soothing, hydrating, glow-restoring, one-stop face mask. Here's what Sessilee told WWD:
When you travel for work, what do you make sure to pack? Definitely an umbrella for London. Neosporin and loads of Band-Aids because we get some fierce blisters. I also take honey with me for when I don’t have time to run out and get it.
Honey? For what? For a mask. I just slather it on my face. It takes off the dead skin and leftover makeup. I also do an avocado-apricot-honey mask when my skin needs moisture.
It's extra-important to use raw honey instead of heated honey, which doesn't retain the active enzymes and anti-microbial properties that make raw honey so great at soothing blemishes. Want to try this at home? Check out my recipe for a Calming Raw Honey Mask here.
