On My Skin in October: The Honest Co.

I took the phrase 'babying your skin' a bit literally this month, and became obsessed with The Honest Co.

My husband and I don't yet have a need for The Honest Co.'s diapers, wipes and bottles, but after one use I was personally hooked on the extra-gentle body oil and hair conditioning mistthese products are definitely not just for kids!

It's really the simplicity and purity of The Honest Co.'s products make them versatile enough for adults and kids alike. The certified organic body oil has only six ingredients: five organic oils (sunflower, olive, jojoba, coconut and tamanu) plus organic mandarin essential oil that imparts a light, creamy citrus scent. Oil massage is an incredibly therapeutic ritual (did you know it can even help restore hormone balance?) that I'd recommend to everyone, especially over the winter. I like to dry brush and apply oil after bathing to boost lymph flow and circulation, and this oil is a new favorite.  A 4.4 oz bottle is $9.95.

The conditioning mist has a few more ingredients (pro-vitamin B-5, shea, and wheat germ oil all strengthen and hydrate hair). I found that it gave a little extra curl and definition to my hair, especially when air drying. Again, I loved the barely-there orange cream scent from vanilla and citrus oils.

The Honest Co.'s membership program is pretty unique. And here's where it really works best for those with little ones (or at least a bigger family): when you sign up for a membership, you enter a (fully customizable) monthly auto-ship program. If you're doing load of laundry, outfitting a baby in disposable (plant-based and biodegradable) diapers, doing a lot of dishes, or slathering kids with sunscreen, you won't have to worry about running out of these essentials from month to month. And there's the option to share these products among members of your family (yes, the body oil would be as lovely for babies and kids as it is for adults). For those of us who use products a bit more slowly, the monthly shipment could prove to be a bit too much. You decide. There's always the option to buy individual products on the site.

If you've heard of The Honest Co., you probably already know that Jessica Alba is a co-founder. I have to say, I like that Jessica has created a line that reflects the high standards that she sets for her own family's products. This line could easily be more expensive, but it's a reasonable price to pay for organic and natural ingredients that a whole family can share. This is one celeb endorsement that I can definitely get behind.

To note: all products are free of phthalates, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates, PVC, parabens, benzene, chlorine, synthetic fragrances, triclosan, formaldehyde-based preserving agents, nanoparticles, TEA, MEA, phosphates, polyethylene glycol (PEG), quaternium 15, DMDM hydantoin, 1-4 dioxane, bisphenol-A (BPA), alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs)/nonylphenol, BHA and benzalkonium chloride.

And for every purchase, The Honest Co. donates 'product, money, time and effort' to children in need— currently through Baby2Baby.

If you do have children, I'm sure that The Honest Co. would be a one-stop shop for products that you'll love, and love to share. Take a look at the whole line (pictured below) at honest.com.
